At times she risked her life doing field research on these exotic subjects. Sy Montgomery, of Hancock, has written many important books on such exotic subjects as man-eating tigers, golden bears, and pink dolphins. Everyone I know who read "The Good Good Pig" love loved it and recommended it to friends, who also love loved it. This was nonfiction for adults, a true story of a writer's life with a pig. We met Christopher Hogwood last year in Sy Montgomery's bestseller "The Good Good Pig," a story about a woman, her pig, and a philosophy of life inspired by said pig who seemed to revel in every moment and appreciate humble gifts like grub and mud. Well, make way for the new pig on the block. And don't forget the politically charged Napoleon of "Animal Farm." Oh, and what about Winnie the Pooh's little sidekick, Piglet? White's "Charlotte's Web." The Freddy the Pig books delighted my daughter when she was small. Pigs have always inspired stories, from the three little ones who encounter the big bad wolf, to Wilbur of E.B. (Roaring Brook Press: cloth, 32 pages, $16.95)
